Planning your session

When should I book maternity photos for a twin pregnancy?

Book earlier than you would for a single pregnancy, and write to me sooner than you think you need to. With twins the shape arrives sooner and comfort changes faster, so the window I usually recommend does not transfer. I do not name a week in advance for a twin pregnancy; when you enquire, we choose your date around your own pregnancy and how you are feeling.

Everything else stays the same. The session takes place at my private studio in Roseville, the wardrobe is here waiting for you, and I direct every pose from the first frame to the last.

Why your date is chosen around you, not around a calendar

For a single pregnancy I usually recommend approximately 28 to 32 weeks, because that is when the belly is beautifully present and most women still move comfortably. A twin pregnancy does not follow that guidance. The shape is often fully there well before it, and the stretch of weeks that feels good can be short. So I do not publish a number for twins. I am a photographer rather than a clinician, and I will never tell you what your body should be doing or when it is wise to travel; that belongs with your own care team. What I do is listen. Tell me how far along you are and how your weeks are going, and I will place the session where it serves you best. When there is any doubt at all, earlier wins.

How I pace a twin session in the studio

A twin pregnancy carries more weight, sooner, and standing for long stretches is rarely comfortable. I build the session around that from the beginning rather than adjusting it halfway through.

  • Seated and supported poses form the backbone of the session, and standing work is kept short and deliberate.
  • Wardrobe changes happen close to a chair, so you are not on your feet longer than necessary.
  • We pause whenever you want to. A break does not cost you images; it usually improves them.
  • The order of looks is planned so that the most demanding one happens while you have the most energy.
  • I direct posture, hands, chin and expression throughout, so you never have to hold a shape while working out what to do with it.

What to wear when the shape arrives sooner

Fabric that moves does most of the work. Gowns with volume, long flowing lengths of fabric and fitted jersey all read well on a fuller shape, and a bodysuit gives a clean line when you want the belly plainly shown. The studio wardrobe holds gowns, flowing fabrics, bodysuits, accessories and statement pieces, so you do not need to solve this alone or buy anything. I choose styling by what you want from the photographs, never by size: more coverage, a longer line, support for a fuller bust, or something bolder and more editorial. White and cream read soft and airy, black is classic or dramatic depending on how I light it, and earthy neutrals stay calm and timeless.

Choosing a package when the runway is shorter

Because a twin pregnancy gives you a narrower stretch of good weeks, decide early what you want inside the frame. If your partner and your children belong in the photographs, that is the Comfort experience at $1,499 or the Premium experience at $1,799; the Light experience at $1,099 is for you alone. Premium also includes professional hair and makeup, which may be added to an eligible package for $399. A $399 deposit reserves your date and the balance is due on the day of the session. If a Monday through Friday suits you, the code WEEKDAY2 adds two extra edited images.

As soon as you know you would like maternity photographs. Enquiring early gives us the widest choice of dates, and it lets me place your session while you are still moving comfortably rather than scheduling around a date that has already passed you by.

Because every twin pregnancy is different, and I am a photographer rather than a clinician. Naming a week for all women would be guessing. Instead I ask how far along you are and how you are feeling when you enquire, and we choose the date together from there.
