I am Natalie Vell — a professional maternity photographer, mother of five, and the woman behind Natalie Vell Studio.
I specialize in maternity photography because I believe pregnancy deserves to be remembered as more than a temporary stage of life.
Pregnancy can be soft, powerful, emotional, elegant, and completely transformative — all at the same time. My work is created to preserve those different sides of a woman through carefully planned studio portraits.
As a mother of five, I understand that motherhood is rarely as effortless as it may appear in a finished photograph.
I know how much a woman carries during pregnancy — physically, emotionally, and mentally. I also know how easily mothers can become the people taking care of everyone else while rarely stopping to see themselves. My work gives women that opportunity.
Natalie Vell Studio is a private maternity photography studio located in Roseville, California. I welcome clients from Sacramento, the Bay Area, Northern California, and surrounding communities.
You do not need to feel like a model
Most of the women I photograph are not professional models. Many tell me they feel uncomfortable in front of a camera, do not know how to pose, or worry that pregnancy has changed their bodies too much.
You do not need to arrive knowing what to do. As your maternity photographer, I guide your hands, posture, shoulders, chin, expression, and movement throughout the entire session.
I pay attention to the smallest details:
- The placement of your hands and fingers
- The direction of your face
- The position of your shoulders
- The shape created by fabric
- The way light falls across your body
- The expression that completes the portrait
My responsibility is to create the photograph. Your responsibility is simply to trust the process and allow yourself to be present in it.
Maternity photography can be more than soft and traditional
I do not believe maternity photography has to follow one visual formula.
A woman can be graceful and powerful. She can be romantic and bold. She can wear an elegant gown in one portrait and create a dramatic editorial image in the next.

My goal is not to place every woman into the same outfits and poses. It is to understand which combination of wardrobe, lighting, movement, and expression creates the strongest result for the woman standing in front of me.
A private maternity photography studio in Roseville, California
Natalie Vell Studio is located at 1220 Melody Lane, Suite 180, Roseville, CA 95678. All sessions are available by appointment.
The private studio allows us to control the lighting, temperature, backgrounds, wardrobe changes, and pace of the photoshoot. You can move from one maternity look to the next without traveling between multiple locations or changing clothes in a public space.
Professional hair and makeup is available with eligible maternity experiences and is included with the Premium package. Beauty preparation takes place inside the studio before photography begins, allowing the full transformation and photoshoot to happen in one comfortable, private space.
You do not need to purchase a maternity wardrobe
One of the most common concerns I hear is:
“I have nothing to wear.”
You do not need to purchase several maternity gowns before your appointment. Every maternity experience includes access to the Natalie Vell Studio wardrobe.
The collection includes:

- Flowing fabrics
- Bodysuits
- Accessories
- Statement pieces
- Items that can be styled in several different ways
I help you select pieces that complement your body, match the visual direction of the session, and work with the planned lighting and poses. You may also bring personal clothing and meaningful details, such as jeans, a blazer, jewelry, heels, or small items connected to your baby.
The wardrobe is not simply a collection of dresses. It is one of the creative tools we use to tell your maternity story.
Professional retouching that still looks like you
I believe professional retouching should complete a photograph — not erase the person in it.
Your final maternity portraits are carefully polished while preserving your features, expression, and connection with the people you love. Lighting, posing, fabric placement, and camera angles are handled intentionally during the session. Retouching completes that work while keeping the final result realistic and personal.
I want you to recognize yourself in your portraits, even when you are seeing yourself with a confidence and strength you may not have noticed before.
Your partner and children can be included
Your maternity photoshoot can celebrate you individually while also preserving the family waiting to welcome your baby. Partner and children are included with applicable maternity experiences.
They do not necessarily need to attend the entire appointment. We can plan a specific arrival time for their photographs while protecting enough time for your individual maternity portraits and wardrobe changes.
I provide complete posing and positioning guidance for everyone participating. Your partner and children will not be expected to arrive knowing where to stand, how to pose, or what to do with their hands.
The goal is to create family portraits that feel connected and natural while remaining visually consistent with the rest of your maternity gallery.
Your pets may be included too
For many clients, a dog, cat, bird, or another animal is already an important part of the family story. I have photographed individual dogs, a group of seven large dogs, an African gray parrot, and a fold-eared cat in the studio.
Animals may be included when their participation is discussed and planned before the session. Their size, temperament, handling requirements, and comfort inside a studio environment must be considered in advance.
Your pet does not need to remain for the entire appointment. Another adult may bring the animal for the planned portraits and then take them home or outside while the rest of your maternity session continues.
A creative business built around motherhood
Natalie Vell Studio is deeply personal to me because motherhood is not simply the subject I photograph — it is part of who I am.
Being a mother of five has shaped the way I see women, families, transformation, and the importance of preserving different chapters of our lives.
My family is also connected to the creative work behind the business. My son works with me behind the scenes on content and other creative parts of the brand. Building something meaningful while involving my family makes this work even more personal.
What you can expect from your maternity photoshoot
Before your appointment, you will receive preparation guidance so you know what to bring and how to plan for the day. At the studio, I will help you:
- Select and coordinate your maternity looks
- Choose pieces from the studio wardrobe
- Move confidently through every pose
- Create several visual styles within one cohesive session
- Include your partner and children when applicable
- Plan photographs with your pet when approved in advance
- Feel supported even if you have never been professionally photographed
Natalie Vell Studio offers Light, Comfort, and Premium maternity experiences with different session lengths, numbers of looks, finished images, and printed artwork.
For most pregnancies, I recommend scheduling the photography session at approximately 28 to 32 weeks. You do not need to wait until you reach that stage to contact the studio. Reserving earlier gives you a better opportunity to select a preferred date within your recommended photography window.
